Over 400 guests attended the Currumbin Wildlife Hospital Foundation’s Annual Gala Dinner in May this year to raise funds and awareness in support of Currumbin Wildlife Hospital. The Animals with Attitude and Gala Dinner events successfully raised over $80,000 profit for the Foundation, but there is still a way to go to reach their target of $1 million a year to continue their fantastic work. ..

The old Queenslander at the top of the hill opposite the Point Danger Lookout has had many reincarnations over the years, servicing busloads of tourists as a snack bar and ice cream parlour. But it’s not since owners Donna and Steve Archdeacon transformed the run down site into the Café d’bar restaurant and gallery eight years ago that it has become a local attraction in itself.   

While they have a strong following including local world champ surfers and nearby residents, Donna says they also look after the needs of international tourists, short stay visitors from Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide and Perth and day trippers from Brisbane. ..

A local resident of Currumbin Valley for 30 years, Arno Schilling is a talent in a field of his own – possibly the only person in Australia to exhibit such skill in hand carving wooden masterpieces. Born in the German city of Karlsruhe, home of the automobile inventor Karl Benz, Arno moved to Australia as a young man, building homes in Melbourne. Before long, he and his wife Trudi moved to the Gold Coast in 1969 to be closer to family, where Arno’s real artistic career began.    ..
