Division 14 update from Cr O'Neill

Posted on Thursday, November 09, 2017

There are a range of works and events ongoing and coming up in Southern Gold Coast over the next few months as we get set for the games. Keep up-to-date with the latest news from Cr Gail O'Neill.

Golden Four Drive works
Upgrades are continuing on Golden Four Drive (Dune Street to Short Street). Road resurfacing, widening and new kerb and channelling will accommodate road cycle lanes, with pedestrian crossings set to be raised on the eastern side streets. New line markings will formalise parking bays on the western side of Golden Four Drive and footpaths will be widened. Works are scheduled to be completed by December 2017.

Golden Four Drive Parking
A four hour parking area along Golden Four Drive (Musgrave Street to Gibson Street) has been approved by Council. Signage and dedicated parking areas will be installed in the near future. A notice will be sent out to residents with information about how to apply for a parking permit.

Kropp Park/Len Wort Park Oceanway
Construction of the new five metre wide pedestrian bridge which replaces the timber bridge across Flat Rock Creek is complete and open for public access. The old timber bridge will be pulled down. This $1.5 million upgrade is a key connection for the southern Gold Coast and will be well used by pedestrians and cyclists, particularly during the Commonwealth Games.

The community is invited to participate in the Currumbin Oceanway Family Day Celebrations at Kropp Park/Len Wort Park on Sunday 12 November from 9am-11am.

Tugun to Bilinga Oceanway

The Tugun to Bilinga Oceanway concept design and planning is complete. A recommended alignment and landscaping plan for a 3.5 metre wide Oceanway (Toolona Street to Matters Street) has been developed. Factors such as existing vegetation and proximity of the path to private property have been taken into account. Local residents who will be affected by the works have received information on the design and have been asked for feedback.

‘Drive Safe’ Community Speed Awareness Program

The two speed awareness devices installed in Division 14 as part of the ‘Drive Safe’ program, which encourage motorists to slow down, are working in accordance with expected outcomes by reducing the average speed of motorists at these sites. The locations will be rotated.

Gateways Public Art Commission
The City’s major public art commission ‘Gateways’ will be installed at the Southern Site on the Gold Coast Highway north of the airport with landscaping to commence shortly at this site.

Winders Park
Winders Park has been resealed and traffic will convert to a one-way system. Parallel parking will remain against the park edge but will no longer be available along the creek edge. The creek edge has been reinstated from its current eroded and bare ground state caused by vehicle encroachment. Park visitors can now enjoy grassed blanket space next to creek.

Currumbin Dredging
Dredging has commenced with approximately 30,000 cubic metres of sand being deposited north along Palm Beach beyond 3rd Avenue. Annual dredging of Currumbin Creek allows for the nourishment of adjacent beaches.
